How to create a custom field

Supportbench includes lots of fields in its default state for Cases, Companies, Contacts, and Articles. However, you can always create new fields and add them to the various areas of Supportbench depending on what your business needs are.

Adding a new field​​

  1. On the top navigation bar, click on Configuration and navigate to Custom Fields in the left hand menu.
  2. Click on the button New Field at the top right corner of the page.
  3. Fill in the field properties.
  4. Click on the Save button.

Field properties

PropertyWhat it does
NameThe name of the field.
Label TextThe name to display within the interface itself. If left blank, the name will be used as the field label.
DescriptionA description of the field and what it type of data it's holding.
LocationThe location of the field. This can be set to the following locations:

- Cases
- Companies
- Contacts
- Articles
- Assets
- Company assets
- Contact assets
- Survey
Divisions(Case only) Assign the field to display only for the selected divisions.
Type

The type of field to assign it to.  The following field types are supported:

- Checkbox: A yes no box allowing you to ask a question.
- Dropdown: A customizable drop down list that lets you let the user select a list of values.
- Dropdown Multi-select: A customizable drop down list that lets you let the user select multiple values.
- Tags: A text box which allows you to add keywords and report on them later for easier analysis.
- Textbox: A text box giving the user a single line to store information in.
- Textbox Multi-row: A multiple line text box to give the user more information to store.
- URL: A url that will go to a website and create a click able box to easily get to that url.

Searchable(Company/Contact text boxes only) The content within the text box will be searchable within the search box when looking for a company and contact.
OrderWhat order to display the custom field in the forms.
ActiveWhether the filed is active or not.  This will stop the field from being displayed but the data will be intact and not deleted.
